THE average price of a litre of diesel across the UK has officially reach £1 for the first time, according to the AA, which monitors pump prices.
Although the average UK price of both petrol and diesel has hovered just below the £1 mark in recent weeks following rises in the price of crude oil and the recent fuel duty increase, forecourts in many parts of the country have been charging more.
Yesterday (Wednesday, October 24), the motoring organisation said that the average price of a litre of diesel was now officially 100.5p, while the average price of a litre of unleaded petrol stood at 98.2p per litre.
The latest rise in fuel prices has been caused by fears that oil production could be disrupted by Turkish military action against Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq.
With businesses, particularly hauliers, now paying more for fuel it is likely the price rises will be reflected in higher prices for goods in shops. (AA/Daily Telegraph: October 19).
